O brasileiro Ivan Serpa nasceu no ano de 1923 na cidade do Rio de Janeiro e faleceu no ano de 1973 em sua cidade natal. Foi um grande desenhista e pintor de sucesso. Foi aluno de Axl Von Leskoschek e aprendeu a fazer trabalhos figurativos tendo apresentado todos eles em uma exposição. No ano de 1947 passou a ser adepto ao movimento não-figurativismo que era o gênero de Mário Pedrosa.
Ivan Serpa foi um dos membros do “Grupo Frente”, deu aulas de arte no Museu de Arte Moderna e também restaurou papéis da Biblioteca Nacional. Foi o artista celebrado na primeira Bienal de São Paulo como o melhor artista jovem daquela época, tendo uma pintura concreta mesmo sendo tão novo. Foi o pioneiro do movimento concretista no Brasil no ano de 1960. Anos depois voltou a pintar com o estilo não-figurativismo geométrico e expressionismo. No ano de 1963 estava totalmente voltado ao expressionismo que foi uma fase bem complicada em sua vida, mas rapidamente retornou a sua faze erótica que sempre teve tendência quando fazia pinturas com bico depena.
